Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk posted a rallying call on his Instagram story at the weekend, in which he declared that he is ‘here to show what a Ukrainian man is’ and described himself as a ‘warrior’.
The quote featured in Mudryk’s post reads: “I am here to show what a Ukrainian man is. A warrior. A warrior loves challenges. A warrior is born to overcome challenges. Nothing obsesses so much, the man who put everything on the line, as a victory.
“A warrior can on his way lose battles, but in the end the warrior wins.”
Mudryk was signed by Chelsea during the January transfer window for a deal that not only broke Arsenal’s fans hearts as he was so strongly linked with moving to the Emirates, but in total also amounts to around £89 million. The Ukrainian has yet to hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge – given his enormous price tag, this may fill some Blues supporters with concern.
The 22-year-old has showed potential – his pace and dribbling ability make him intimidating for opposing defenders, but his end product is still lacking. So far, Mudryk has yet to score a goal or register an assist for Chelsea.
Chelsea were beaten 1-0 at home by Southampton at the weekend, who are currently bottom of the Premier League. The Blues looked disorganised throughout, with their expensive attacking talent failing to deliver across the 90 minutes – including Mudryk.
Chelsea and Graham Potter will need to improve quickly if they are to achieve anything this season – regardless, Mudryk appears ready to move on and do better in his next game which may come in the London Derby when they face Spurs away on Sunday 26th of February.
