Chelsea Handed Massive Boost As David Ornstein Reveals ‘Positive’ Update On Key Midfielder’s Future

Negotiations between Chelsea and N’Golo Kante over a new contract are heading in a “positive direction”, according to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein.

The Frenchman’s current deal expires at the end of season but Ornstein claims there is a growing possibility that the midfielder will stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer:

Kante has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since August and his fitness problems are likely one of the reasons why Chelsea have been reluctant to offer the player a long-term contract up until now.

It is believed the Blues were willing to give Kante a two-year extension, with an option for a further twelve months, but the 31-year-old wanted a guaranteed three years.

Whether the club’s stance has changed, as Ornstein suggests, we shall have to wait and see. Kante has been linked with other Premier League teams, including Arsenal and Tottenham, but it is thought that his preference is to remain with his current team.
