“They’ve Watched Him And Like Him” Club Director Claims Chelsea Are Keeping Tabs On 50M Rated Forward

Peterborough’s Director of Football Barry Fry firmly believes that both Chelsea and Everton are keeping tabs on his former forward Ivan Toney.

The 25-year-old moved from the Posh to Brentford last year, helping the Bees to promotion by scoring 33 goals in the Championship, and Fry claims Chelsea may consider him as an alternative to Erling Haaland:

“I still think people like Everton and even Chelsea (want him). I know Chelsea are looking at the top range of centre-forwards but I know they’ve watched him and like him and if they don’t get A, B, and C, who knows? Then I expect Ivan to go for £40m, £45m, £50m, but now he’s got them in the Premier League, only the top clubs could afford him.”

As Fry mentions, the Blues are looking for the top rung so it would be a shock if they did make an approach for Toney. If he is being watched, he is more than likely going to be fourth or fifth choice on the list.

While Haaland is said to be the top priority, the club have also been linked with Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski in recent weeks.

If Chelsea do fail to sign any of those players then they could, perhaps, take another look at Toney, who has also been linked with West Ham and Arsenal.
