Chelsea are weighing up an approach for Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, according to TuttoJuve.com.

The 34-year-old is unlikely to remain Juve’s number one beyond the end of the season, with the Serie A side lining up a move for Monza’s Michele Di Gregorio.

With Di Gregorio expected to cost €20m (£17m), they will need to raise some funds, with Szczesny likely to be offloaded if a fee in the region of €10m (£8.5m) is received.

The Polish international is very experienced, having made 249 appearances for Juventus and keeping 103 clean sheets. Prior to his time in Turin, the keeper had also stayed at Arsenal for 11 years, playing 181 times for the Gunners, having spent two years on loan at Roma prior to his permanent departure for Juve in 2017.

Neither Djordje Petrovic nor Robert Sanchez have impressed during their first season at Stamford Bridge.

Petrovic managed to win the battle for the gloves after Sanchez picked up a knee injury late last year, but his save ratio is one of the lowest in the Premier League at 64.1%.

Sanchez, meanwhile, has recorded a much more respectable 70.5% but the Spanish international has had a number of issues with his kicking too.

Are other keepers being targeted?

Tutto Juve even mention in their article that Szczesny is just one of a number of options that the Blues are considering to strengthen in goal. The Italian website claim that Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale is also on their radar.

There have been reports in recent days that Everton’s Jordan Pickford could be another potential target. The England no.1 is expected to leave Goodison Park this summer but, with his contract set to expire in 2027, he won’t be available on the cheap.

Chelsea may, therefore, prefer to pursue Szczesny, who is only four years older than Pickford and is on the market for a very affordable price.
