John Terry has spoken of his admiration of new manager Jose Mourinho, and has praised the former Real Madrid manager’s man-management styles that he claims have made the players at the club want to play for his side.

Mourinho was manager of Madrid not so long ago, and the charismatic manager won all trophies there are to be won in Spain with his squad but could not win the Champions League for Madrid. One thing that did not change over all these years away from London was his affection for Chelsea, and the former Porto manager never denied that one day he would return to England and perhaps Stamford Bridge. Little did anyone know that there was a reason why manager-less Chelsea at the time decided to sign Rafa Benitez as interim manager, and not offer him a long term contract. Even though the reason why Mourinho and Chelsea parted ways years ago was due to the differences between manager and owner Roman Abramovich, the Russian was smart enough to understand that there was only one man who could revive the fortunes of the club. Chelsea have had several managers after Mourinho, none of whom could create stability at the club to Abramovich’s standards. Hence, the Russian owner had lined up a sensational return for Mourinho, and the Blues supporters were more than thrilled to welcome the ‘Special One’ back home.

The only manager to have won consecutive Barclays Premier League titles for Chelsea, Mourinho took over a squad that had a mix of older players, and others who were brought in for excessive transfer fees. Mourinho was delighted to have players like Frank Lampard, Terry and Ashley Cole, all three who were part of the Chelsea squad during the manager’s first reign. The squad had been replenished with players like Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Ramires, who were young talented individuals who dictated play. However, Mourinho has introduced his own signings into the squad, with players like Willian, Samuel Eto’o, Andre Schurrle and Marco van Ginkel to increase competition within the side.

According to the Metro, Terry has iterated the importance of togetherness in the squad, a factor that may have been missing before.

Terry said, “We are looking fit and very much together – and that’s because of Jose. His man-management is excellent and he makes people want to play for him. He has come home and all the players want to play for him.”

“We are very much back in the same mould again.”

“Hopefully what we know and what Jose knows about the Premier League will make the difference in the title race.”
