Romano Names The 62M Rated Midfielder That Chelsea Are Now Targeting Instead Of Fernandez

Chelsea are weighing up an offer for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo after negotiations for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez stalled, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist doesn’t completely rule out the Blues from going back in for Fernandez but Graham Potter’s side are now switching their attention to alternatives, with Caicedo being seriously considered:

“For now, the negotiation is off. There is no new meeting scheduled, but let’s wait a few days to see how Chelsea reacts. Chelsea are now focused on other players; let’s see if they return for Enzo, but they have an eye on other midfielders, one of whom is Moises Caicedo.”

Caicedo is known to be a target for a number of other Premier League teams as well, including Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle.

However, reports suggest that Brighton could hold out for as much as €70m (£62m) for the Ecuadorian international, who has only made 28 appearances for the Seagulls.

In terms of other potential options that Chelsea may be looking at, the Blues have also been linked with Caicedo’s teammate, Alexis Mac Allister, in recent days. There is a longstanding interest in West Ham captain Declan Rice but a move for the Hammers star is only likely to happen at the end of the season.
