REPORT: Chelsea Starlet Could Become First-Team Regular Under New Boss

19-year-old Chelsea wonderkid Carney Chukwuemeka, who has struggled for game time under Frank Lampard, could be given a new lease of life at the club when Mauricio Pochettino takes charge [via The Daily Express].

Snapped up by Chelsea in the summer from Aston Villa, little has been seen of the English starlet – but that may soon change when Pochettino commands the helm. The fee to bring him to Stamford Bridge was believed to amount to £20 million.

After a strong start to life at Villa, Chukwuemeka has had a less positive season this year – he has made just 11 Premier League appearances, scoring no goals and registering no assists.

Who is Carney Chukwuemeka?

The 6ft 2 19-year-old is a wonderfully talented central midfielder. He brings physicality and technical ability to midfield – in many ways, he plays like a young Paul Pogba.

After beginning his fledgling career in Northampton Town’s academy, he was headhunted by Aston Villa in 2016, where he would remain for another six years.

He made his debut in the 2021/22 season, putting forth a number of impressive performances. This turned the head of Chelsea’s recruitment team – subsequently, he was signed up by the Blues.

While he has represented England internationally at youth level, he is eligible to play for a number of countries as a senior player – including Austria and Nigeria.
