Chelsea and Premier League legend Marcel Desailly has given his views on the man who is expected to take the vacant Chelsea manager job in the summer – Mauricio Pochettino [via NationalWorld].
He aired his concerns on the ‘difficulties’ that Pochettino will face upon taking the Chelsea job. Additionally, while he understands the fans’ concern surrounding Todd Boehly’s ownership and transfer policies, he also believes that the American is building a ‘long-term project’ at Stamford Bridge.
The legendary French defender also believes that Chelsea made a ‘mistake’ in appointing Graham Potter – he also mused that Chelsea should not have sacked Thomas Tuchel when they did.
On Pochettino, Desailly said: “Pochettino could be a good choice. He has always been loved by his players and he has the belief and understanding of the game at the highest level.
“Being at Paris Saint-Germain, handling top, top class players, it was difficult for him. He had a problem there. For Chelsea to rebuild and create a winning mentality, he could be the correct guy.”
Desailly is widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs of all time. He played for Chelsea between the years of 1998 and 2004 and also won a World Cup with France during his time at Stamford Bridge – outside of this, he also spent time at AC Milan, Marseille and Nantes over the course of his illustrious career.
