Chelsea are one of the top contenders in the race to sign Everton’s Amadou Onana in the summer transfer window, according to a report from Goal.

Liverpool, who were purportedly thought to be interested in bringing Onana on board previously, are now ‘off the agenda’ according to Goal.

However, despite Liverpool being ruled out of contention, Chelsea are not alone in the quest to snap up Onana’s services. Arsenal are also thought to be interested in the young Belgian – the Blues will need to beat their London rivals to the punch if they want to finalise a deal.

Chelsea are reportedly set to let go of the aging Mateo Kovacic in the summer – Onana could prove to be a brilliant, not to mention younger, replacement for the Croatian.

Everton have had a particularly poor season in the Premier League this year – nevertheless, Onana has managed to be one of the Toffees’ standout performers. So far, the Belgian starlet has shown excellent defensive prowess from midfield, scoring a single goal and notching up two assists along the way.

He does have a questionable disciplinary record, though – Onana has picked up nine yellow cards this season for Everton in the Premier League.
