BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham has everything in his locker to become a “superstar”.

The 19-year-old is expected to be named in the England squad for the World Cup later this month, and he has been tipped for a summer switch to Chelsea, among other clubs. Shearer says he is excited by what the future holds for the midfielder:

“In Jude Bellingham, we [England] have a superstar in the making with the potential to set the world alight, so in those regards, it feels exciting.”

Depending on what report you read, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester City are all said to be frontrunners for Bellingham’s signature so Chelsea do have some ground to make up if they want to be in with a chance of securing his signature.

The teenager is likely to cost in excess of £100m, with some reports claiming Dortmund want as much as €150m (£132m). If that proves to be the case, it may provide an avenue for the Blues to move ahead of their rivals in the race to snap up the player.

Co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbahi have already shown they are willing to spend big on new signings so we shall see if they are prepared to make a bold play for Bellingham as well.
