Arsenal legend Ian Wright says new Chelsea signing Timo Werner reminds him of Alan Shearer in terms of his attitude to scoring goals.
The TV pundit has been watching the German international since the Confederations Cup in 2017, and he believes the 24-year-old has an aura about him that only natural goalscorers like Shearer and few others exhibit:
“He’s got it, he’s got the striker vibe. It’s what Shearer was like. You look at Shearer and you watch him walk into a room, he looks like if there was a goal in this room I’m going to score it.”
It’s high praise indeed from Wright, but Werner does have to prove himself on the pitch before being able to match the exploits of the Premier League’s leading all-time goalscorer.
There’s is no doubt, though, that the Blues have got themselves an excellent striker, especially considering they paid less than £50m to snap him up from RB Leipzig this summer.
Whether he can be as prolific as he was in Germany, we shall have to wait and see, but fans will be keenly awaiting tonight’s season opener against Brighton to see him in action.
