Chelsea have decided to loan out centre-back Fikayo Tomori when the January transfer window opens, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Speaking on his ‘Here We Go’ Podcast, the reporter claimed that the Blues are happy to keep the defender but feel that his long-term development would be better deserved by getting minutes away from the club.
With manager Frank Lampard having five centre-halves at his disposal, Tomori’s first-team opportunities have been limited. He has barely featured for Chelsea this campaign, having played in only three games with no starts in the league, and supporters on Twitter are backing the decision to send the 23-year-old out on loan:
I see this as a dub

Doesn’t surprise me… for me I’d still say he’s the 3rd best CB we have. Would rather Rudiger left

Than why didn’t he go on loan in the last window?

Superb the kid NEEDS to play

Surprised that he hasn’t been given minutes in the Champions League. Needs a loan, ideally in the EPL. Still rate him in front of AC, and possibly Rudi. Just lacks experience at this level. #cfc

Yes please, get him some minutes

I am glad to see Tomori going out on loan, he’s a great prospect and he needs the minutes and more importantly he could well be a Chelsea star in the not too distant future.

This is great to hear. It is a shame for him because he did put in some class performences last year, but I really hope he our future CB option, along with the likes of Guehi, Xavier

Best for him

It will be hoped that a Premier League side will be keen to take him on in January. West Ham were said to have had an approach knocked back for the player in October, while Newcastle are also thought to hold an interest in the defender.
