Gary Neville Explains How Lampard “Didn’t Fall” For Old Mourinho Trick That Cost Arsenal

Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has praised Chelsea manager Frank Lampard for how he negotiated the 0-0 draw against league leaders Tottenham.

Arsenal were the latest team to succumb to Spurs’s lethal counter-attack yesterday and, while it is an effective tactic employed by Jose Mourinho, Neville says Lampard was smart enough not to get caught out:

“They [Arsenal] did over commit in those two moments. They’ve been beaten in the way they were always going to be beaten. Chelsea last week didn’t fall for it and in the end, they had a couple of chances.”

It’s clear that Lampard’s experience of working under Mourinho made him more cautious heading into that game and, even though they didn’t secure the three points at home, they kept pace at the top of the table.

As a consequence, the Blues were able to head into a difficult clash against Leeds on Saturday with a bit of momentum and that undoubtedly helped them seal a confident 3-1 win versus a tricky opponent.

Lampard will rest most of his key players for the final Champions League group match against Krasnodar tomorrow before a trip to Everton next weekend.
