Frank Leboeuf Slams The Two Chelsea Stars Who “Disappeared” Against Real

Ex-Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf says he was left very disappointed by the displays that Joao Felix and Raheem Sterling put in against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Manager Frank Lampard started the pair up front at the Bernabeu but both failed to make an impact on proceedings during the 2-0 defeat and Leboeuf expressed his displeasure following the match:

“Some [Chelsea] players did well, but most of them switched off, I’d say. What happened to Joao Felix today? It was not a derby between Atletico and Real Madrid, it was Chelsea. Yet he disappeared. Sterling… I’m not talking about him. He disappeared for a long time.”

Since arriving on loan during the January transfer window, Felix’s performances have been very inconsistent. As Leboeuf points out, he can go missing for long stretches but he does also provide moments of brilliance.

With Atletico Madrid demanding around €100m (£88m) for the Portuguese international, you can’t see the Blues paying that much to sign him on a permanent basis currently.

Sterling, meanwhile, has been a big disappointment since making the £47.5m switch from Manchester City last summer. The 28-year-old looks to be lacking in confidence and Lampard would be wise to bench him for the game against Brighton on Saturday.
