Chelsea Legends Send Their Support As Manager Takes To Instagram After Being Sacked

Frank Lampard was sacked by Everton this week, following a disastrous string of results for the Toffees that left them in the relegation zone. Lampard’s departure seemed like a long-overdue inevitability – nonetheless, he thanked the fans for their support in an Instagram post.

The post currently has over 300,000 likes. In the comments, he’s received support from former Chelsea favourites such as Didier Drogba and Joe Cole – additionally, Everton legends Phil Neville and Tim Cahill also voiced their admiration of Lampard.

In the post, Lampard wrote: “Coming into Everton last year I knew we were in a tough moment and I will always be proud of the incredible work and support from everyone involved to keep the team in the Premier League last season. Thanks to everybody that played their part as the whole club came together.

“I will never forget the incredible night against Palace that we shared. I want to thank all Evertonians for the welcome that you gave to myself, my staff, and my family.”

“It truly is a special club with a huge heart, and an incredible history. I’m disappointed that we couldn’t achieve more together and wish all the players and everyone at Everton FC the very best for the future.”

Outside of Everton, Lampard has also managed Derby County and Chelsea, although his time with the Blues ultimately ended in disappointment.

After taking charge at Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2019, he did secure a fourth place finish during his first season, despite the Blues being subjected to a transfer embargo. However, his second campaign was less successful.

After being heavily backed in the transfer market, Lampard’s side were languishing in ninth place after 19 games, and his time as the club’s manager ended when he was replaced by Thomas Tuchel in January 2021.
