Abraham Reveals How Lampard Reacted After Chelsea’s Humbling Defeat To Sheffield United

Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham has said that manager Frank Lampard was not shy in telling the players what he thought of the performance after the 3-0 defeat to Sheffield United yesterday.

Despite dominating the ball, the Blues continue to give away sloppy goals, and Abraham says Lampard expressed his frustration following the game:

“He let us know how he was feeling after the game. We got into the changing room and we already knew ourselves so there wasn’t much for him to say.”

“We didn’t start the game sharp, but you have to give credit to Sheffield United for how they disrupted the way we wanted to play. They scored an early goal which frustrated us, and we didn’t react.”

“In games like this, we know we can’t start slow and that’s what we did. They got an early goal and that boosted them to put in a good performance.”

All the talk about bringing in Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz is a bit strange considering the glaring weakness in the squad is clearly at the other end of the pitch.

To be perfectly honest, if Chelsea are to challenge at the top end of the table next season, replacements for four of the back five will need to be considered.

A goalkeeper, a left-back and two new centre-halves should all be on the club’s list of transfer targets, with Reece James the only one safe in his position on the right-hand side. Whether we’ll see such a radical defensive overhaul this summer, we shall have to wait and see.
