Chelsea retain an interest in Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to the Daily Telegraph reporter Luke Edwards.
The journalist claims the Blues were interested in buying the Brazilian during the January transfer window and they may revisit the situation this summer:
Newcastle to fend off Bruno Guimaraes interest with new contract β but long-term future is unclear #nufc https://t.co/WBHLoRa9uQ

Fans on Twitter would back a move for Guimaraes, although some believe it is unlikely that the player will leave St James’ Park:

With Mateo Kovacic closing in on the final twelve months of his contract at Stamford Bridge, it does appear that the club may be lining up a possible replacement.
Guimaraes does have a pretty similar skill set to the Croatian. He is press-resistant and a ball carrier, while he also has a decent passing range.
Newcastle will likely resist any offer for one of their best players, though, so it is debatable whether he is a realistic target. A lot will depend on whether he is willing to sign a new deal with the Magpies.
