“It’s True…” Romano Provides Transfer Update As Chelsea Eye Potential Mount Replacement

Chelsea are keeping tabs on RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai but they are not close to signing the Hungarian, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Reports in the Italian media over the weekend suggested that the Blues were making a concerted effort to secure the player’s signature but Romano says the club have not opened formal talks at this stage:

“From what I understand guys, there is nothing done for the future of Szoboszlai at this stage. There are many clubs interested. Many clubs are following the player closely. It’s true that Chelsea appreciates the player. Chelsea have sent their people to follow the player, to scout the player but at the moment we can’t say that Chelsea are close to signing Dominik Szoboszlai.”

Szoboszlai is a very similar player to Mason Mount and it could well be the case that he is being eyed as a potential replacement.

Negotiations between Chelsea and the England international over a new contract have stalled and there is a growing likelihood that he will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle are all said to be keen on signing the midfielder.

In terms of Szoboszlai, he is a player that Chelsea technical director Christopher Vivell knows very well, having signed him for Leipzig, so it is definitely one to watch.
