Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi says he hopes to take advantage Alvaro Morata’s hamstring injury by shining up top for the Blues.

Morata has been brilliant so far this season for Chelsea, but he withdrew from the Spanish national squad this week after it emerged he suffered a hamstring injury during the Blues’ 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

It could be a bitter pill for Chelsea to swallow, losing their inform striker so early in the season for potentially up to a month, but they do have strength in depth with Batshuayi.

The 24-year-old has started just once in the Premier League this season, and he has never really been in the first XI picture at Stamford Bridge. But it has to be said that the Belgian international has always performed when called upon, and scored some vital goals during his Chelsea career.

With Morata out injured, now is the perfect opportunity for Batshuayi to show Conte that he can be trusted to lead the line on his own, and the forward says he will jump at the chance if called upon by the manager.

“It sounds strange to say, but someone’s bad luck is sometimes the happiness of the other,” the Belgium international told Sky Sports News.

“I know that I will have more playing opportunities in the coming weeks. It’s up to me to show that I’m capable. I know Conte has confidence in me. Otherwise, he would have let me leave during the summer.”
