Wolfsburg Show Interest In Chelsea Striker

The 21-year-old Romelu Lukaku has started just one Premier League game for Chelsea since signing for them in August 2011. The striker has spent the last two seasons on loan at West Brom and Everton in order to get the hang of the physical nature of the English league.

The Belgian shone last season with his 15 league goals in 31 appearances pushing the Toffees up to 5th in the table above Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs.

His impressive outings have prompted suggestions that Jose Mourinho could give him the opportunity to be the leading striker in the first-team next season. However, with Chelsea poised to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid, the future of Lukaku has been put into doubt yet again.

With many interested parties attracting the attention of Lukaku, Mourinho could cash in on his £20 million-rated striker. Everton are naturally interested in bringing him back to Goodison Park and even Spurs have joined the race for his signature with new manager Mauricio Pochettino making Lukaku his number one transfer target.

Wolfsburg are the latest club monitoring the centre forward’s situation with the German outfit hopeful of completing the signing of a second Chelsea player within six months after signing Kevin de Bruyne in January.

Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs confirmed that he is exploring the possibility of signing Lukaku. According to the Express, he said, “We are to sign a striker this summer and we have to wait and see which deal will be feasible in the end. [Lukaku?] Of course, but we also have other names in mind.”
