TNT Sports pundit Peter Crouch says Chelsea attacking midfielder Cole Palmer is the best signing that a Premier League club has made this season.
Since joining from Manchester City for £42.5m last summer, the 22-year-old has scored 24 goals and provided 13 assists in all competitions. When speaking about contenders for Player of the Year, Crouch was keen to recognise the achievements of the young Englishman:
“If you think about the singing of the season then it’s Cole Palmer. In a really struggling team, he’s been the shining light and up there in the goalscoring charts.”
Palmer is currently second in the running for the Premier League Golden Boot, just four goals behind City’s Erling Haaland with three games to go. That is some achievement when you take into account he isn’t a striker.
The Chelsea star has had the biggest impact of any signing this season
While some may argue that the likes of Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice and Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister have also had outstanding campaigns, you only have to look at the number of goal contributions to see why Crouch has picked Palmer.
The playmaker’s impact has been simply phenomenal. Nobody expected him to be so influential, especially during his first season as a regular starter. Considering there is still potential for him to improve in the future, there is no telling how good he could become.
Palmer has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Season award
The Chelsea midfielder is among the eight nominees for the EA Sports Player of the Season prize. Supporters can vote for their player by heading over to the official website here.
Fans don’t have long to make their vote count with the deadline for nominations being 12 PM BST this Monday. The winner will be decided by combining public votes with a panel of football experts.
