It looks like Falcao is done despite Hiddink’s recent statement that all players can start from scratch under him. The Colombian is out of form and was deemed unfit to be included in the squad lately while Remy looks less and less convincing. With that in mind it is hard to believe that Costa will remain the only striker in the lot. Even if Hazard or even Willian can step in from time to time, it may not be the moment to experiment. The best solution might be to start buying which is not that farfetched given the recent changes. The biggest problem is that no one knows who will take over in the summer which means no one knows who needs to come to Stamford Bridge. Basically spending big this winter would be useless unless the future manager gets involved. Rumors have it that Guardiola has agreed to a long term deal with Mourinho’s former squad but for now that is just speculation. The variations are not that easy to figure out as every manager has his favorite players and playing style. If we look at Guardiola, you know he will try and take Thiago or Lahm with him. If you look at Simeone, you know Koke or Griezmann would be definite targets. The best we can do is pick some players who are still tied to teams that are a level under what Chelsea represents for international football and figure out of if they are worth the financial outlay.
It is very difficult to figure out the way the lot will look tomorrow or the day after that so figuring out what side Hiddink will send on the pitch in February is very tough. We can continue speculating though as in the right context, any of the three players mentioned above could be Chelsea’s next striker to be purchased.
