Who Will Be Used Up Front?

Who Will Be Used Up Front?

It looks like Falcao is done despite Hiddink’s recent statement that all players can start from scratch under him. The Colombian is out of form and was deemed unfit to be included in the squad lately while Remy looks less and less convincing. With that in mind it is hard to believe that Costa will remain the only striker in the lot. Even if Hazard or even Willian can step in from time to time, it may not be the moment to experiment. The best solution might be to start buying which is not that farfetched given the recent changes. The biggest problem is that no one knows who will take over in the summer which means no one knows who needs to come to Stamford Bridge. Basically spending big this winter would be useless unless the future manager gets involved. Rumors have it that Guardiola has agreed to a long term deal with Mourinho’s former squad but for now that is just speculation. The variations are not that easy to figure out as every manager has his favorite players and playing style. If we look at Guardiola, you know he will try and take Thiago or Lahm with him. If you look at Simeone, you know Koke or Griezmann would be definite targets. The best we can do is pick some players who are still tied to teams that are a level under what Chelsea represents for international football and figure out of if they are worth the financial outlay.

  1. Jackson Martinez – 29 – he has been waiting for a transfer for a long, long time. The Colombian who can be brilliant at times has yet to prove himself in the big leagues. It may be time for him to make a step towards greatness. He would be a good transfer as he is not the most expensive player in the world and could be incredible as both a substitute and as a first pick.
  2. Alexandre Lacazette – 24 – he is pretty much a younger version of Martinez. He is injured though and Chelsea need someone who can start strong. The Frenchman is set to return on the 31st of December so getting him could be a gamble, but a gamble that could produce spectacular results.
  3. Romelu Lukaku – 22 – with Mourinho out of the way, the Belgian star might consider a comeback. According to the Daily Star, Didier Drogba was the one who suggested resigning Everton’s main man. He is looking to go a step further than Everton are capable of going through which means he is prepared to leave. There is really no better solution for him than the Blues right now.

It is very difficult to figure out the way the lot will look tomorrow or the day after that so figuring out what side Hiddink will send on the pitch in February is very tough. We can continue speculating though as in the right context, any of the three players mentioned above could be Chelsea’s next striker to be purchased.
