Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has said that Fikayo Tomori now ranks in his top two centre-backs at the club after his performances at the start of this season.
The 21-year-old put in a standout performance against Liverpool last weekend, and he is almost guaranteed to start against Brighton this afternoon. When asked about where the defender currently sits in his plans, Lampard replied:
“There is competition in there, Tomori is now number one or two as it stands. They are really playing well. Age isn’t a huge story.”
Fans on Twitter have been echoing Lampard’s sentiments:
Well deserved.
He should pair with Azpi, while Reece plays

Huge. Credit to Tomori. Here’s my ranking: https://t.co/JuuhJ8dKIy

Tomori has certainly shown himself to be one of the more composed and reliable centre-halves in the squad so far this season. With Antonio Rudiger still dealing with a groin injury, Tomori will likely be partnered by either Kurt Zouma or Andreas Christensen for the match versus the Seagulls.
Christensen is carrying a knock, and Lampard has said that he may have to play through the pain barrier if he selects him for the game today. In any case, the Blues boss will be trusting Tomori to be a rock in the defence whoever starts alongside him.
