Three Centre Backs Chelsea Might Sign

With John Terry looking like he might be leaving Chelsea this summer, Chelsea certainly need to bring in another defender as the club can’t afford to go into a season with only Cahill and Zouma as the only senior centre backs.

With the Blues already been linked to the signing of many centre backs, we take a look at the five Centre backs Chelsea have a strong chance of signing this summer.

Kostas Manolas

In the last three weeks, there has been one report after the other claiming Chelsea are interested in signing the highly rated AS Roma defender. The Greece international who is just 24-year-old has had a good season in As Roma’s colors and has been linked with both Arsenal and Manchester United as well as Chelsea.

Standing at 6ft 2″ tall, Manolas is a very powerful and very strong ball playing centre back. He is also very fast and has good passing range. His style of play will surely suit any of the Premier league teams.

He is a bit old fashioned in his style of play which will be well suited to partner any of the current Chelsea centre backs. He averages 1.7 tackles per match and at least 2 interceptions. He is definitely not a saint when he comes to dirty tackles, he averages 1.4 fouls per match.

He is reportedly available for £35 million. He has been linked with a move to a premier league club in the past with Arsenal thought to be signing him before he chose to go to AS Roma in 2014.

As reported by The Sun, AS Roma earlier last month rejected a bid of £26 million for the Greek star from the Blues.

John Stones

Chelsea reportedly had three bids rejected for him last summer and are said to be prepared to make another move for him this summer when the transfer window opens. John Stones started as right back but has played in the centre back position for Everton in recent times although he had a rough time last night against Liverpool.

Given the season he has had the £50 million which Everton are reportedly demanding seems rather steep so Chelsea may be better served to sign someone else.

Mats Hummels

Mats Hummels is quite experienced and should Terry eventually leave the club this summer, the German World Cup winner will be the ideal replacement for the former England skipper. Just as John Terry, Hummels is quite well experienced and has won virtually all that’s to be won in world football.

He is one of the players Germany manager Joachim Löw will be backing on for success in France at the 2016 European Championship. Also linked with Manchester United, it is been reported Chelsea will try very hard to convince the Borussia Dortmund star to reject the Red Devils for a move to Chelsea.

Of all the centre backs linked to a move to Chelsea, Hummels could be the most ideal option to replace John Terry. His wealth of experience will be helpful to Chelsea’s other young centre backs and he is a winner.

Only recent Hummels hinted at Dortmund exit which shows Chelsea have a good chance of signing the player this summer if they can manage to beat Manchester United to his signing.
