Ex-Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has slammed Kai Havertz, Mason Mount and Jorginho for the part they played in the 4-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend.

Havertz was culpable for City’s second goal after an inexplicable handball that gave away a penalty. Mount and Jorginho were also extremely wasteful in possession and Leboeuf didn’t hold back in his criticism:

“The players who are forming the spine, they are shameful. They do nothing. I don’t know what Kai Havertz is doing. Mason (Mount), I love you, but come on! I don’t know what Jorginho is doing on the pitch still.”

To be fair, the entire Chelsea team were very much off the pace at the Etihad, but Leboeuf’s point about some of the senior players not stepping up to the plate is a fair one.

There were plenty of youngsters such as Bashir Humphreys, Lewis Hall, as well as Trevoh Chalobah and Conor Gallagher, on the pitch so it was disappointing that the likes of Havertz, Mount, Jorginho and even Kalidou Koulibaly weren’t at their best.

You’d have to say that Graham Potter hasn’t had a lot of luck with injuries but, if some of those who are fit aren’t even pulling their weight, it really spells trouble for the Chelsea manager.
