The Best German Players In The Premier League This Season – Including Chelsea And Manchester City Stars

The Premier League was established in 1992 to help attract more foreign talents to the highest tier of English football – as such, teams in the league have been able to bring in some quality players from Germany.

While not the most well-represented nation in the Premier League, there have been plenty of excellent German players in it previously – such as Bastien Schweinsteiger at Manchester United, Dietmar Hamann at Liverpool and Michael Ballack at Chelsea.

But who are the best German players currently plying their trade in the Premier League? Let’s take a look.

Pascal Gross

Brighton winger Pascal Gross has been consistently excellent since he joined the Premier League all the way back in 2017.

An awe-inspiring dribbler with an eye for goal, Gross looks like a real threat every time he plays. He has been very unfortunate to have never received a cap for Germany.

This season, Gross has scored six goals and has racked up three assists in the Premier League – his G/A record is one of the best in the division this campaign.

Bernd Leno

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno is unfortunate to have been born at a similar time to Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer – if not for him, the Fulham shot-stopper may have enjoyed many more caps for his country.

Leno has played for a host of clubs across his illustrious career, including VfB Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen.

The 30-year-old has been Fulham’s first-choice ‘keeper this season – he’s started in all but two of their Premier League fixtures in 2022/23.

Ilkay Gundogan

Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan isn’t one of City’s most recognisable players – however, he might just be their most underrated.

A complete midfielder with bags of energy, excellent passing ability and a goalscoring touch, Gundogan has scored three goals and notched up three assists this season.

At 32, he may be past his best at this point in his career. Nevertheless, he remains an elite player and one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.

Kai Havertz

You have to feel for Kai Havertz. One of the most naturally gifted players in the Premier League, he is currently suffering from being played in an unnatural position.

Havertz has been chiefly used as a lone striker this year – while he’s performed admirably there, scoring five goals in 22 Premier League games, he is much better when played as a number ten.

When played there, he can showcase his excellent passing and dribbling abilities with a far greater level of consistency. He isn’t a bad striker – he just lacks the physicality one needs in that position.
