Chelsea have held preliminary talks about signing Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana, according to L’Equipe. The French newspaper claims that Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on the Nigerian with the player said to be tempted by a move to France.
Several other clubs are believed to be in the running for the 24-year-old with it also being claimed that Ajax are prepared to sell the shot-stopper for €30m (£26m). Some fans on Twitter think it would be an excellent purchase:
Get it done that’s a steal @ChelseaFC

That's a decent price! Let Caballero leave! Keep Kepa & add Onana. Competition for places immensely improves the players. Let Onana & Kepa fight for the no.1 spot

Would be a great signing, aside from his AFCON duties, very dominant in the air so we'd be far better off dealing with crosses/set pieces than Kepa , worth many points a season

@yusmalik_ on my knees if this happens

Others are not so sure that Onana would be an upgrade on current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga:
There’s little or no difference between Kepa and Onana!!!! This is a wasteful signing, if true.

Onana is said to be an excellent sweeper-keeper but the main issue for manager Frank Lampard has been shot-stopping. Kepa has the lowest save percentage in the league and that is something that will need to be improved upon.
It has led to reports that the Blues have been looking at Burnley’s Nick Pope and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson as other potential options.
