Swansea 2 – 2 Chelsea: Match Report

It was just one of those days when everything that can go wrong goes wrong. First there was Courtois’ mistake who charged Sigurdsson in the poorest of manners. He could have moved faster off the line but at the same time he could have gotten more support from Azpilicueta and Terry who might be just as guilty for the penalty as the Belgium international was. Cahill should not be blamed for the fact that The Blues conceded a 2nd goal out of nothing. He got his ankles tackled twice and was sent to the ground with no actual fault of his own.

“The second goal I think everyone can see the situation. I don’t want to speak about the decision but it’s a bad decision from the referee.”We conceded two goals, one after our own free-kick. We can improve on these situations” said Conte to Sky Sports when asked about the center-back’s slip-up.

The Italian boss took a second jab at the referee by commenting about Costa’s situation who was constantly provoked by his direct adversaries.

“After all the games you asked me about the patience of Diego Costa and I’m very happy about his patience. But I can tell you from the 1st minute to the 94th minute he took a lot of kicks. It’s incredible that the defender finished the match.”

“It’s a bit difficult to talk about the game because we dropped two points,” Conte said. “We were dominating the game, leading 1-0 and creating a lot of chances to score the second and third goals. But in two minutes the match has changed.

“We did very well to eventually draw and even have chances to win the game. It’s a pity because when you the opportunities to kill the game you must kill the game. This is the English league though and we know we’ve dropped two points.

“We are disappointed for the result but not the performance. The team created a lot of chances playing good football with a good intensity. When you have a lot of attempts you must score more goals to win.”

Regardless of the result and the way the defense behaved, you could still see improvement from Chelsea’s players. Costa was definitely the stand-out player. Oscar is also slowly getting his form back just as Ivanovic. The worst news coming from this game is not that Chelsea lost a couple points by drawing the game though, it is that Terry picked up an ankle injury which will most likely keep him away from the pitch for a couple of weeks. Fortunately, Conte signed Luiz who will be paired with Cahill in the middle of the defense to make up for Terry’s absence..
