Southampton Refuse To Sell Highly-Rated Shaw

Jose Mourinho has preferred to deploy Cesar Azpilicueta out-of-position at left-back, a spot which Ashley Cole had made his own in recent years. The England international, who has more than 100 caps to his name, looks set to depart the Bridge in the summer as Mourinho seeks a younger replacement.

Shaw has been one of the best young players in the league this season, and he is also nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Top clubs in England have taken notice of the 18-year-old’s performances, especially Chelsea and Man United. It seems that the youngster has impressed many clubs with his assured displays this season and almost all the top Premier League clubs have been linked with him at some point or another.

However, according to the Express, Chelsea can forget about signing Shaw with Southampton in no mood to sell their prized asset. Their executive director Les Reed has insisted that Shaw is not for sale.

He said, “No club has been given permission to talk to any of our players. That will remain so. As far as the policy is concerned, we’ve had a great season. We want to build on that season. We want to improve the squad going forward.”

“We want to retain the players we’ve got. They are all contracted. They all have existing contracts and we intend for them to honour those contracts. Any enquiries we get will probably be met with a ‘no, not for sale’. Our intention is to keep this very good team together and build on it by bringing new players to improve on that.”

Chelsea will reportedly turn their attention to Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno who is valued in the region of £15 million as it looks like the Blues will be unable to pry Shaw away from the Saints this year.
