Simon Jordan Warns Chelsea Against Hiring 51 Year Old Who Lacks The “Ruthless Streak” Of Mourinho Or Tuchel

Chelsea would be wise to steer clear of appointing Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent manager, according to talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan.

The 51-year-old is among the favourites to take the job this summer after Frank Lampard’s stint as interim boss comes to an end. However, Jordan feels the former Tottenham head coach lacks the killer instinct to win titles:

“I’ve never believed that Pochettino has the winning gene. I think he’s a really good manager, I think he’ll get you to a certain level… There’s something about Pochettino that just tells me he doesn’t have this ruthless streak that someone like [Thomas] Tuchel had and someone like obviously the great Alex Ferguson had and [Jose] Mourinho has. This inability to see anything other than just winning at all costs.”

It is true that, despite his success at Spurs, Pochettino did not win a trophy during his five years at White Hart Lane, even though he came very close to winning the Champions League in his final full season at the club.

Jordan does seem to be forgetting, though, that Pochettino won three trophies during his eighteen months at Paris Saint-Germain, winning the Super Cup and French Cup in his first campaign, before going on to lift the Ligue One title in his second year.

Whether that is enough to convince Chelsea’s board that he is the right man for the Blues, it remains to be seen.
