BBC pundit Alan Shearer was full of praise for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud following his performance in the 4-0 win against Everton yesterday.

The Frenchman played the target man role exceptionally well, holding up the ball to bring others into the game, as well as getting on the scoresheet himself, and Shearer was very impressed with what he saw from the 33-year-old:

“He led the line superbly well. The two Everton centre-backs never got near him at all. It helps when the stand four or five yards off you as well. His link-up play was fantastic as well and he continually brought other players into the game. He was too strong for both centre-backs.”

“They just stood off of him and he was flicking balls everywhere. He gave those two defenders a torrid time. He got the goal he deserved. He was absolutely fantastic. He led the line with such aggression and he was superb.”

Giroud has certainly turned his career at Stamford Bridge right around since the close of the transfer window. The Frenchman has admitted that he did all he could to leave the Blues in January, with Inter Milan, Tottenham, Lazio and Lyon all keen on his services.

However, Tammy Abraham‘s ankle problems have given the France international another chance under manager Frank Lampard. If he continues putting in performances like the one against Everton, he will certainly not be dropped any time soon, even if Abraham returns to full fitness.
