Premier League Players Out Of Contract – Part 3

When the Premier League season ends, many players’ contracts will run out – allowing them to leave their respective clubs on free transfers. Are there any out of contract players on this list who you’d like Chelsea to snap up in the summer? Here we take another look at Premier League players out of contract.

We’ve picked out five players whose contracts expire in June in the third part of our free agents series. We’ve chosen a varied bunch, from a legendary goalkeeper to a former England star. Who’s on the list this time?

Lucas Moura

Spurs superstar Lucas Moura has scored plenty of crucial goals for Tottenham in the past – including one that sent them to their first ever Champions League final. However, at 30 years old and with several injury niggles, his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be nearing its end.

On his day, Lucas is a pacy winger with brilliant movement off the ball. He’s something of an old fashioned wide man who likes to hug the touchline, rather than cut inside.

He’s also picked up 35 caps for Brazil, scoring four goals. Could this Spurs stalwart still have something to offer at the highest level?

Abdoulaye Doucoure

Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure joined the Toffees back in 2020. Like Lucas Moura, he’s 30 years old and has historical injury problems – nonetheless, he remains a very talented midfield player.

He has plenty of ability, energy and composure on the ball. Despite being an ideal central midfielder for the Premier League, he may be a bit too old for Chelsea’s current transfer policy.

He’s made ten appearances for Everton this year, scoring no goals. With Frank Lampard’s team in danger of relegation, it’s unlikely that Doucoure will be staying at Goodison Park if they go down.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was once one of England’s brightest prospects. Sadly, several serious injuries hampered what could’ve been.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has evolved over the course of his career – he used to play as a winger, but he is now primarily utilised in a box-to-box role. This season, he’s made seven Premier League appearances for Liverpool, scoring one goal.

A former Southampton academy graduate, he was snapped up by Arsenal when he was just 18. Six years later, he joined Liverpool for a reported fee of £35 million.

Adama Traore

Adama Traore is a unique footballer. He certainly doesn’t look like many of his peers – his musclebound frame gives him the appearance of a professional wrestler. With freakish pace and strength on the ball, he is a nightmare for opposing fullbacks.

Currently at Wolves, his contract is set to expire in the summer. While his dribbling ability and speed on the counter are excellent, his end product has always been somewhat lacking.

At the age of 26, he is just a couple of years away from his theoretical prime. Would you like to see the Blues take a chance on him?

David De Gea

Manchester United’s talismanic goalkeeper, David De Gea, is set to see his contract run out in the summer if he is not offered a new deal. He’s been at United since 2011 and was once considered one of the best ‘keepers in the world.

While his shot stopping ability is second to none, the other aspects of his game have been called into question. His distribution, handling and ability to deal with set pieces have often been called into question.

Nevertheless, De Gea remains one of the world’s leading goalkeepers, even at the age of 32. The question still stands – how badly do United want to keep the Spaniard?
