Premier League Players Out of Contract – Part 2

As we move closer to the summer, a number Premier League players out of contract could be looking for a new club when June rolls around and here again we look at Premier League Players Out of Contract. One of them is a Chelsea player, who many Blues fans would undoubtedly be sad to see not returning to the club.

Likewise, can you see United snap up any of the other five players on this list? Not only will this piece include the potential loss of Champions League Winning Brazilian legend and Chelsea player – there are also stars on this list from the likes of Everton, Manchester City and Liverpool.

The free agent season always throws up a few surprises as players look to sign mega contracts.

You cannot blame players as they are often looking to make the most lucrative move as it’s likely one of their last chances to sign a big money multi-year deal as they get older.

Naby Keita

Naby Keita joined Liverpool in 2018 to much fanfare – he was even given the coveted number eight shirt, previously worn by Steven Gerrard.

Despite the hype, Keita hasn’t really ever lived up the lofty expectations placed upon him not that replacing Stevie G was a realistic expectation for any player coming into Anfield.

As such, it wouldn’t be a shock to see him depart Anfield in the summer, when his contract will come to a close. He’s also suffered numerous injuries during his time in the Premier League, which has done little to help matters.

Ilkay Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan, one of Manchester City’s star midfielders, will leave Pep Guardiola’s team in the summer if he is not offered a new contract.

At 32, however, it can be safely assumed that his best years are most likely behind him.

Pep Guardiola’s intense brand of football could prove to be too much for the German veteran’s aging legs. Due to this, he could leave the Etihad in the summer.

Caglar Soyuncu

Monolithic centre half Caglar Soyuncu has been a first team regular for Leicester City since joining the club in 2018.

At just 26, he’s just about to hit his theoretical physical prime – but with his contract up in the summer, he may not experience it at the King Power Stadium.

The Turkish international has made 92 Premier League appearances for the Foxes, scoring three goals. If he can be tempted elsewhere, he would be a fantastic addition any team looking for a strong, technical central defender.

Nelson Semedo

Suffice to say, Nelson Semedo has not had the best of times at Wolves. While his attacking talents have been noted, he has often fallen foul of his own defensive limitations.

His contract expires at the end of June – with this in mind, it would not be a huge surprise to see Wolves cut their losses on the Portuguese full back.

At 29, he isn’t getting any younger, either and will be looking for his last big contract which Julen Lopetegui might not want Wolves to sign him to.

Yerry Mina

Everton’s Yerry Mina has been one of Everton’s better defenders over the past few years. Despite this, the Columbian has also suffered a plethora of injuries that have made him a regular on the physio’s table.

It wouldn’t be at all surprising to see the Toffees allow Mina to leave the club in the summer perhaps with a return to La Liga on the cards.

An additional reason for this is Everton’s uncertain status as a Premier League club – currently, they’re in the thick of a heated relegation battle which they may not emerge victorious from.

Thiago Silva

Legendary centre half Thiago Silva has been brilliant since his arrival at Stamford Bridge. Many critics thought he would be too old and slow for the frenetic pace of the Premier League.

The Brazilian however, has proved his doubters wrong time and time again as his quality has shone through time and time again.

Silva was reborn in Chelsea Blue and in his first season in West London he was credited with being central in leading the club to a Champions League win under Thomas Tuchel after the German took charge mid season.

Unfortunately, at 38, it could be time for Chelsea to let the Brazilian icon go in the summer. With young defenders now at the club, such as Wesley Fofana, Silva’s time as a Blues player may be limited.
