Chelsea have made a breakthrough in their discussions to sign Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell, according to reports in the English media.
Discussions had previously reached an impasse over the Foxes’ £80m asking price but it is now thought a compromise is in sight. Supporters on Twitter are hoping the 23-year-old won’t be as expensive as some fear:
Please tell its not 80

Could have had Tagliafaco and Telles as our 2 LB in theory for the price of Ben. If Frank wants him I guess we back his judgement pic.twitter.com/oVzSI8V3uD

It is still thought that Chilwell’s transfer will be a world record for a left-back and considering Lucas Hernandez cost Bayern Munich £68m, it won’t be that much of a discount.
Whether there is any truth to those claims, we shall have to wait and see in the coming days. Many fans were hoping that the Blues would pursue a cheaper target, such as Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico and Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilon in order to use those funds to strengthen other positions.
However, it is believed manager Frank Lampard has been pushing hard for Chilwell and it looks as though the London club are now closer to beating Manchester City and Manchester United to the player’ signature.
