Mourinho’s Trophy Winning Streak Looking Like Is Finally Over

Chelsea failed to win the second leg of the semi-final against Atletico and are now almost certain (barring a complete miracle where Man City and Liverpool lose all their remaining games) no trophy will make it to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season. It was an unexpected outcome though as The Blues had a great chance to land both Premier League and Champions League trophies. Unfortunately, their lack of efficiency in front of goal cost them more than anyone expected.

The game against Atletico started off with the Spanish side hitting the crossbar only 5 minutes into the game. Koke’s cross fooled Schwarzer but failed to go in. Chelsea fought back through Torres, but Courtois had a great night and prevented the Spaniard from scoring.

Chelsea unexpectedly took the lead after Azpilicueta got the ball to Torres with a bit of luck. The striker scored on his 50th Champions League appearance and gave fans hope that The Blues were heading towards the final.

Unfortunately for Chelsea, Atletico’s fighting spirit prevailed. Simeone’s side scored the equalizer just before half-time. Juan Fran was the one with the assist for Adrian who beat Schwarzer.

Atletico’s second goal came after Eto’o brought down Diego Costa who was inside the box. The Brazilian born Spanish international took the penalty and gave his team a well-deserved advantage. It was not Chelsea’s night as the Blues missed a great chance to get the equalizer after Luiz’s shot.

Arda Turan finished things up after first hitting the crossbar. Chelsea tried a comeback but were denied by Courtois who was probably the man of the match and showed just what a great keeper Chelsea have in the young Belgian stopper and that it may be time to bring him back to the Bridge and have Cech be his back-up next season.
