Mourinho Masterclass As Chelsea Beat City

It was a great night for Chelsea who once again won without any of their three strikers actually scoring. It was Ivanovic’s turn to be the hero of the game. His powerful shot nicely placed in the bottom left corner gave Hart no chance. The Serbian international won three important points for the Blues who were not seen as favorites before the clash at the Etihad Stadium.

Mourinho prepared for this game perfectly. He somehow managed to stop City’s winning streak and also prevent them from scoring after doing so for the past 61 home games.

Even though it was expected that City would naturally score at least one goal, Chelsea’s players were the ones hitting the woodwork and putting pressure on Hart.

The Citizens failed to make the most out of the few chances they had during the first 15 minutes of the game. Toure was really impressive controlling the middle of the pitch. Unfortunately his great form was not enough for his team to get a goal as he just missed connecting with an excellent Kolarov cross.

Chelsea scored after some excellently executed passing sequences which ended with Ramires just a few feet from goal. His blocked shot ended up just outside the right side of the box from where Ivanovic released his thunderbolt from, putting Chelsea up 1-0.

The way in which Chelsea expressed themselves on the pitch was amazing. Newly arrived Matic also managed a great performance and was named man of the match in his return to the starting eleven. It was a throughly professional performance by the entire Chelsea team and showed that even if Man City remain title favourites the Blues are close behind and are going to be a force to be reckoned with for the next number of years as they now have a young dynamic squad with almost all the ingredients needed to challenge on all fronts – a world-class striker in his prime is the only thing missing.
