Chelsea are not the favourites to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, according to TyC Sports reporter Gaston Edul.
The Argentinian journalist says that the Blues, Manchester United and Tottenham are all considering whether to make a bid for the World Cup winner but Spurs have “more interest” than the other two Premier League teams:
Es probable que Dibu Martínez cambie de club en junio. No tiene cláusula de salida. Hay tres clubes de la Premier League que lo tienen en carpeta:
Tottenham -con más interés, Chelsea y Manchester United.
Muy probablemente dé un paso más hacia adelante en el próximo mercado. pic.twitter.com/14es5ufT9A— Gastón Edul (@gastonedul) May 11, 2023
Edul’s remarks are not a surprise. While Martinez is a very good keeper, a lot of the reports centering on Chelsea’s search for a new number one have mentioned three other names.
In the Italian media, Inter Milan’s Andre Onana has been heavily linked; in Germany and England, Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel has been suggested as a target, while there have also been rumours in Spain mentioning Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Of course, that doesn’t rule out Chelsea from making an approach for Martinez. Prospective new manager Mauricio Pochettino may well prioritise a move for the ex-Arsenal shot-stopper but we shall have to wait and see.
