Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has tipped Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount to go on to have a great career in professional football.

The 21-year-old broke into the Blues’ first team at the beginning of the campaign, and speaking about the player, Messi says he has been impressed by what he has seen of him this season:

“Having watched him play he has the potential to be one of the best.”

Mount has certainly made an impact and he has more than justified the faith that manager Frank Lampard has shown in him.

The attacking midfielder’s six goals and five assists in 41 appearances this campaign is an impressive total considering it is his first season playing at the highest level.

Of course, Mount will need to work on his consistency but, as Messi says, the talent is clearly there, and if he develops his game over the next few years, there is no doubt he has the ability to really make a name for himself at the Blues.
