Man City Under Real Pressure – Mourinho

The league has shaped up very interestingly this season, especially considering the turn of events after opening day. The teams which had a good start like Manchester United have stuttered in their tracks, whereas the ones who had a forgettable start like Arsenal sit pretty on top after opening up a cushion of 4 points.

Chelsea, who trail Arsenal in 2nd place are finally finding their consistency after dropping points on multiple occasions earlier this season. The Blues travelled to the Stadium of Light last night to face Sunderland, winning 4-3 courtesy of a Hazard masterclass. The game kick-started a busy festive season which will see every club play as many as 7 games in the month of December. It is a crucial run of fixtures which can make or break their season. Many suggest that the team which comes out on top after this testing period will be in pole position to go on and win the league.

Every team is under immense pressure ahead of the packed schedule, and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes that former champions Manchester City will be the ones under the most pressure among the other title challengers, simply because of the squad depth they possess. It is a given that every team will have to smartly rotate the squad to avoid any fatigue for the season run-in, and Mourinho believes that City’s strong bench could be a major factor in them climbing up the table,as  ESPNFC report.

The Portugese manager spoke to the media ahead of the Sunderland game and said, “I keep saying the same: I don’t think we can speak about favourites. We can say that one team is top of the league and some are a little bit far, but I keep thinking that all six teams are title contenders,”

“But I keep saying that the team with more responsibilities to win it because their squad is quite unique is Manchester City.”

City have been absolutely unplayable at home this season, as they have brushed aside Manchester United 4-1 and have humiliated Tottenham 6-0 already, however their form on the road has been unpredictable. None-the-less, Manuel Pellegrini rotated his squad and gave some of his first-team players a rest last night vs West Brom and still managed to pull off a 3-2 win at the Hawthorns thanks to 2 goals from Yaya Toure and another goal from Aguero.
