Journalist And Former Player Reveals Chelsea ‘Want’ Turkish Star And Are ‘Prepared To Pay’ £27m

Former Trabzonspor player turned journalist Lemi Celik has said that Chelsea are very keen on snapping up goalkeeper Urgucan Cakir.

The Turkish international has been performing well for Trabzonspor this season and Celik says he has information that the Blues are lining up an offer for the 21-year-old:

“Chelsea want Ugurcan Cakir, they are prepared to pay €30m (£27m) for him. Chelsea are the only side who are prepared to pay what Trabzonspor want for him and that makes them favourites.”

Whether this is, in fact, reliable information, we shall have to wait and see. Chelsea are said to be on the lookout for another goalkeeper with Kepa Arrizabalaga having failed to convince Frank Lampard with his performances this campaign.

However, Cakir’s lack of experience would raise questions over whether he’d be capable of coming to Stamford Bridge and handling the pressure of being first choice.

You also have to consider the fact that Turkish media sources are notoriously unreliable. The keeper has been linked with numerous Premier League clubs, including Liverpool, but there has never been a formal offer from an English club for the player.
