“It Makes Sense To Offer Him” Merson Names The Player Chelsea Should Use In Part Exchange For Haaland

Paul Merson believes Chelsea should look to offer Timo Werner in exchange for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland in the summer.

The German has struggled for goals since his £47.5m move from RB Leipzig at the start of the season, and in order to bring down Haaland’s reported €150m (£129m) asking price, Merson thinks giving Werner to Dortmund would be a good idea:

“I think Chelsea will sign a proper striker this summer and I think they will use him as a makeweight. It makes sense to offer him to Borussia Dortmund as part of a deal for Erling Haaland. Dortmund will need a replacement if they sell Haaland and Werner is ready-made and proven in the Bundesliga. He would probably appeal to them.”

There have been reports over the last couple of weeks that Werner could be offered in a deal for Haaland but those rumours have been played down in the German press.

It is clear, however, that Chelsea will be going all out for Haaland in the summer, but the fierce competition from the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United will make it a very tricky deal to pull off.

Considering the Norwegian’s incredible scoring record, though, the Blues are certainly justified in making every effort to get him.
