‘Something Is Going To Have To Give’ Arsenal Legend Worries For Future Of Chelsea Manager

Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has spoken on Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino’s position at the club, saying that he is ‘worried’ about what the future has in store for the Argentinian.

Following Chelsea’s defeat against Aston Villa at the weekend in a game that saw Malo Gusto be sent off, the Blues have a total of just five points from six league games.

Chelsea currently sit 14th in the Premier League table – from their six games played so far, they have won one, drawn two and lost the remaining three.

What did Ian Wright say regarding Mauricio Pochettino?

Speaking on the Kelly and Wright show, Wright said [via the Metro]: “You look at those [next 10 fixtures] — a derby against Fulham and then Burnley — those are must-win games. You would worry for them if they lost the next two.

“You look at Chelsea, and you think something is going to have to give soon. I think it’s the next two games. If they don’t do it, you have to start worrying for Pochettino.”

is Pochettino’s job at Chelsea under threat?

To issue judgement on Pochettino at such an early stage in his stewardship would be hugely unfair – sadly, this does not mean that his job is currently in safe hands. Chelsea became synonymous with chopping and changing their managers at the first sniff of a poor run under former owner Roman Abramovich – Todd Boehly has shown that he is no different in this regard.

So far under the American’s tenure at Stamford Bridge, he has sacked three of the Blues’ head coaches – Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard have all suffered the chop at the hands of Boehly.

Football management – especially at the elite level – is a brutal business, something that Pochettino will be all too aware. He knows he must change the Blues’ fortunes – and fast.

Nevertheless, if Pochettino is to be sacked, it poses a burning question – who do Chelsea replace him with? There is not an abundance of world class coaches on the market presently, which could swing the balance in his favour (at least, for now).
