‘He Should Win It Imo’ ‘Lowkey Having A Fantastic Start’ Fans React As Unlikely Chelsea Figure Is Given PL Award Nomination

Chelsea wingback Marcos Alonso has been nominated for the August Premier League player of the month award.

The Spaniard will go up against West Ham pair Michail Antonio & Said Benrahma, Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood, Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Everton’s Demarai Gray for the prize.

Alonso has been given the opportunity to shine by manager Thomas Tuchel at the start of the season and he has taken his chance. Fans on Twitter feel the 30-year-old is well-deserving of the nomination:

It must be said that Alonso has had huge peaks and troughs during his career at Stamford Bridge. After starting his time strongly under Antonio Conte, he then struggled under Maurizio Sarri and Frank Lampard, with both favouring a four-man backline.

It’s clear that the Spanish international is only really comfortable playing as a wingback and Tuchel has certainly managed to get the most out of him in recent months.
