Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder Kai Havertz has said he is “confident” that he can perform if he decides to move abroad this summer.
Multiple reports claim that Chelsea have opened talks about signing the 20-year-old for £70m but, while the German international did not explicitly address the interest from the Blues, he did leave the door open for a potential departure from the Bundesliga:
“I think I’ve picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen. I know the rhythm of these international matches and I’m confident that I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany. For the moment, I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we’ll see.”
Havertz is on a number of clubs’ radar, including Manchester United, but Chelsea are being very proactive in their attempts to sign stars ahead of next season, with the signings of Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech and RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner already in the bag.
Leverkusen are believed to be holding out for €100m (£89m), although it has been claimed that they may be prepared to accept €80m (£71m) with €20m (£18m) in bonuses. If that is indeed true, the Blues’ initial offer for the player could well be close to the mark.
