Havertz Pays Tribute To “Special Player” Who Has Made A Big Impact After Return To Chelsea’s First Team

Chelsea forward Kai Havertz has singled out teammate Reece James for praise after the wingback played a key role in the victory against Burnley on Saturday.

The England international scored the all-important opening goal at Turf Moor, as well as setting up Havertz for his second of the afternoon. Asked about James’ impact, Havertz said the team were delighted to have him back in the fold after injury:

“We’re very happy. I think he’s a special player for us, a very important player for us. He’s a full-back but he scores goals, he assists goals, and I think that’s very important for us. He’s a great character and a great player.”

James deserves huge credit for the way he has come back into the side and performed straight away. After two months out with a torn hamstring, it would have been understandable if it took him a while to get back up to speed.

However, his performance at the weekend almost felt like he had not been away at all, with his ability to make crucial contributions in the final third from the right-hand side of the pitch.

It is thought that James did pick up a minor niggle during the Burnley win but it shouldn’t keep him out of the Blues’ next match against Norwich on Thursday.
