The Guardian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that “official talks” are now underway between Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen over signing attacking midfielder Kai Havertz.
Previous reports have suggested that the 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Blues but discussions over a transfer fee had yet to take place.
Negotiations now appear to be underway but Romano says that Chelsea are only prepared to pay €80m (£73m), including add-ons, at the moment, but that hasn’t stopped fans on Twitter getting excited:

At the moment, it appears an agreement is still quite far away. It is thought that Leverkusen are still holding out for their €100m (£91m) asking price but, with the player keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, you would have thought a compromise could be reached.
Havertz had a very good season in Germany, scoring 17 goals and contributing nine assists in 43 appearances for Leverkusen. Many see him as one of the hottest young prospects in Europe.
