England Boss Will Seriously Influence Lampard’s Future

Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy have made it quite clear that they want Frank Lampard to join them as their marquee signing to replace David Beckham. Robbie Keane is currently filling Beckham’s role as the big name signing but it has to be hard after Keane was referred to as another Galaxy fan when he was caught in a photo with Becks last year. (I am not a big fan of Keane but i would not wish that on anyone!)

Lampard would go some way to delivering a big name to the bright lights and glitter of Hollywood and Southern California plus the Galaxy would be getting a player still in some of the best form of his life as his 2 recent goal scoring appearances for his country against Brazil and wait-for-it San Marino have reinforced. Not to mention the 12 goals he has scored in all competitions this season for Chelsea and he is closing in on the all time Chelsea goal scoring record sitting on 200 goals just 2 behind club legend Bobby Tambling.

Hodgson has said that he very much wants to keep Lampard in his plans for Brazil 2014 but that it would make life easier for the England boss from a monitoring point of view and justification of selection if Lampard continues to play in a European League. Manchester United have already put down a marker in case Chelsea are stupid enough to let Lampard go saying they would be interested but I can’t imagine Abramovich letting Lampard go to the Reds or Lampard risking the ire of the Chelsea faithful.

Hodgson and Lampard are due to sit down for a heart to heart during the key squad sessions over the international break to work out how the selection issues might work themselves out. Speaking in the Daily Mail last week Lampard said, “I don’t think America rules anything out, but I haven’t had the conversation with the manager yet. I’ve seen players getting picked playing all over the world”.

So it seems the two parties have a different take on things but clearly Hodgson still favors Lampard as he brought him on in the game against Brazil and Lampard repaid Hodgson’s faith in him with a wicked winning goal and then Lampard started against San Marino, scoring another goal for good measure, and most likely will get the call again in the key game against Montenegro.

Lampard has said that he is envious of Cole and Gerrard for reaching the 100 cap milestone and he wants to do the same, let’s hope he gets to achieve that honour for his country and gets another contract at Chelsea where he sets the all-time scoring record if he has not already done it. Lampard deserves it all, he has been nothing but class and should represent Chelsea and England for at least until after the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 barring injury of course we pray!
