Chelsea’s Next Four Potential Transfer Targets And When They Could Sign

As we head towards the January transfer window, Chelsea are likely to be drawing up their plans for potential signings.

It’s unlikely to be as busy as the summer, with manager Frank Lampard having already stated that he is uncertain about whether he’ll look for any new additions to the squad

“I don’t know about January. I’ll consider January when it is here. So I’ve got the squad and we’re working hard on the games that are in front of us.”

The club’s recruitment department will still, though, be planning for the long term. Press the next page as we go through the Blues next four potential transfer targets.

1) Declan Rice

The West Ham midfielder is undoubtedly the next player that Chelsea will be targeting and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says he is “convinced” that the Blues will make a bid for the 21-year-old in January.

Rice is reportedly keen on making the switch to Stamford Bridge but the England international’s asking price will remain the big stumbling block. A bid of between £70m and £80m may be needed to prise him away from the London Stadium.

2) David Alaba

Although this is more likely to happen at the end of the season, Bayern Munich may opt to sell the Austrian international next month to prevent him leaving on a free transfer when his contract expires.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all been tipped to make moves for Alaba so Chelsea could steal a march on the competition by making an offer in January. Failing that, they could still sign him up to a pre-contract agreement.

3) Erling Haaland

Reports coming out of Italy today suggest that the Norwegian goal machine is on the Blues’ radar. Rumours of the London club’s interest in the Borussia Dortmund star have been circulating for a number of months but the credibility of the sources have been questioned.

In any case, even if Chelsea were to bid for Haaland, an offer would likely come at the end of the season, with Manchester City and Manchester United both said to be keen on the striker as well.

4) Jose Gimenez

The Atletico Madrid defender has been tracked by Chelsea in the past, with Fabrizio Romano having mentioned the 25-year-old by name when talking about potential centre-back targets.

Gimenez has a release clause of €120m (£109m) so a bid does seem unlikely at this stage. Thiago Silva’s excellent form means there is no urgent need to sign another defender so fans shouldn’t hold their breath in terms of an offer being made for the Uruguayan.
