“I Don’t Care” – 17 Goal Striker Speaks Out After Chelsea Make Enquiry About £87M Transfer

Chelsea target Viktor Gyokeres says he isn’t thinking about leaving Sporting Lisbon when the transfer window reopens.

It was reported last week that the Blues have made an enquiry for the Swedish international, along with teammate Ousmane Diomande but, when asked about a potential move in January, Gyokeres said:

“I think it’s a bit like when Sporting came in to sign me. I’m very happy here and I don’t care about any interested parties at the moment.”

“I’m enjoying every day here and not thinking about what’s going on around me. Yes, there’s talk of big clubs, but for now, it’s just news. That’s all. Yes. This is where I want to stay.”

Gyokeres has only been at Sporting a very short time

The 25-year-old arrived in Portugal from Coventry City in the summer, but he has made an instant impact at his new club, scoring 17 goals in his first 20 appearances.

Sporting paid an initial €20m for Gyokeres, with another €4m in add-ons, and they also owe Coventry 10% to 15% of any future fee, which will influence their valuation of the player.

Chelsea may have to trigger the forward’s release clause

It has already been stated by Sporting that they are not willing to sell Gyokeres for below his buyout fee, which currently stands at €100m (£87m).

Some may assume that it is bluster as the club looks to get the best deal possible. However, there are several factors in play that suggest that they will stick to their demands.

Firstly, Gyokeres has only been at Sporting for a brief period of time so they are unlikely to have a replacement lined up. Secondly, the sell-on clause means that the Portuguese side will end up getting less of the fee and, finally, the player is clearly not pressing for a move away.
